My name is Shawna, I am currently enrolled in my second year of college at Fanshawe. I am taking Early Childhood Education and in September I am taking the Autism and Behavioral Science Program afterwards. I am currently living in London Ontario, but I do travel home on weekends to Blenheim to do my part-time job as an at home autism therapist with a nine year old girl. My second year of Early Childhood Education will be finished on April 21, 2015 and I will then be living back home.
I have always enjoyed being around children, as I started babysitting when I was 13 years old. When I was 13, I started house keeping in a beautiful home down the road from me, which this family had two children. During housekeeping my employer also allowed me to watch her children at times as well. In High School I continued my passion with children in a co-operative education class. My placement was at a public school working with ages between five and seven. I learned to assist the teacher with learning activities and I effectively utilized positive teaching skills as well. During my last year in high school I got an incredible opportunity to do something I love, which was work one on one with a child with autism, which I am still currently doing. I assist her with reading and writing abilities, organize play date activities and assist her with communication skills as well.
As for my hobbies and interests, I am very active in volleyball and outdoor sports, I have a keen interest in arts and crafts, I enjoy reading aloud to children and I participate in running competitions every summer. I am very fun and enjoyable to be around, and always have a bright smile on my face.
