Dear prospective families and children,

My name is Kristen Zimmerlie, I am a fully registered teacher with a Bachelor of Education Primary/Early Years and a Diploma of Children’s Services (Early Childhood Education and Care) from Australia. I am currently living in Canada and Have an IEC visa granting me the opportunity to live and work within Canada.

I have a firm understanding of children’s formative development, developmental milestones, social and emotional competence and early literacy and numeracy. Through completing my Primary and Early Childhood Degree and qualifications, I have gained extensive experience working with children of all ages.

As an individual, I am passionate about living a healthy and active lifestyle and love working and spending time in nature. I also have a real love for cooking, hiking, camping, travelling, singing, music and art. I am currently living and working on a Ranch as a Camp Counsellor and activity leader.

I will utilise my knowledge, skills and experience to care for and educate children holistically. As a Nanny, I will work collaboratively with parents, children and colleagues to provide quality education and care. I will use my creativity to design educational experiences that extend the children’s interests and provide new opportunities for learning. It is my deep desire to nurture a love of learning in the children in my care, which in turn will equip them with life-long skills and values. I will confidently use my personal proficiencies to support and cater to the physical needs of the children, family and household including cooking, cleaning and organisation.

In my practice I have focused on modelling and teaching children values. I believe my teaching practice has scaffolded and supported children to form lifelong skills. The children in my care would describe me as: ‘kind, caring and fun’. The children have shared with others: “did you know Miss Kristen is Mary Poppins? (Annika), she is like Mary Poppins, she sings songs (Charlize), she cooks with us, (Neavaeh) tells us stories (Luka), plays games (Tau) and plays all sports (Elliott)”.

I believe that each child is unique. Every child has individual strengths, talents, qualities and abilities, when these are encouraged and celebrated they flourish. I believe that children are holistic beings who develop, physically, emotionally, socially, spirituality and intellectually.

I had the wonderful privilege of working as a Nanny for nearly two years for a family with three children (aged three months, one and half and 3 years old). It so rewarding to care for the children and to establish a care and nurturing relationship. It was wonderful to see them grow and achieve. I still keep in contact with the family and hope to continue to hear about the children’s lives. As a Nanny I worked collaboratively with the parents to establish care routines for three children of varying ages. My duties included: supervising and interaction with the children, preparing meals and assisting with hygiene and bed time routines. Planning and providing activities that scaffolded the children’s learning and supports their development.
