Job Description
When are the hours of work? All hours & days may vary, give or take a little:
- mostly day time coverage. May be some weekends or evenings.
- 3 days mornings a week 08:45-09:45am.
- Some 09:00am - 15:00 shifts.
- Do you have Flexible shifts or on call hours shifts? May need coverage for extra days if something unexpected comes up.What do you need your Helper to do? List info such as ages or specific requirements:
- Female senior, 87. Prefer someone who has experience with dementia patients.
- If available, prefer Cantonese-speaking, although she understand a bit of English.
- Help to get ready for Adult Day Program: 08:45-09:45am approx. HandyDart pickup.
- quick breakfast (cereal), heat up lunch, give snacks
- change to day clothes
- Weekly bathe/shower (wash hair)
- once a week: clean bathroom, clean toilet, garbage out
- exercises
- keep her engaged in activities, ie: games, clapping games, cards, coloringWho are you looking for? What are qualities you're looking for in the ideal candidate:
Reliable, honest, has patience, sincere, friendly & engages favorably to client.
Common sense & ability to make the client feel comfortable, trusting & safe.

Important Information
When older people needs some help at home, it's not necessarily nursing level care. Most often it's companionship and practical help for someone who has some physical limitations and/or creating a safe environment for someone with early stage dementia.
The elderly can experience Issues with sight, hearing or sensitivity to noise and touch. A good eldercare companion is someone who is observant and attentive

Qualifications
- You must be a non-smoker
- You must have or be willing to obtain CPR
- You must have or be willing to obtain first aid training
- You must be eligible to work in Canada
- You must have a driver's licence
- You must have a recent criminal record check or be willing to obtain one
Additional Qualifications:
Hard to answer the minimum education level Helper must have. I'd say at least high school, but it depends on the person themselves, their morals & ethics, honesty, demeanor, knowledge of the job they are hired to do, and do it well. Patience is a definitely must, esp when working with a person with dementia - experience in that field is preferable. Thanks you.
